Kroger has announced a new initiative that will help consumers shop online without going through the hassle of an in-store checkout.
In a statement, the supermarket chain said that it will make the process of shopping online more convenient by providing shoppers with access to free and clear online shopping from over 300 stores and through the free and Clear Shopping app.
The new app will let consumers shop anywhere and anytime, without ever leaving their home.
Kroger said it will be launching the app at stores in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Austin, Dallas, Denver, and Portland, Ore.
It will be available from May 3, 2018 through June 4, 2018.
Consumers can purchase items on their smartphone or tablet and receive free shipping, as well as access to Kroger’s extensive catalogs.
“We are thrilled to offer this new and innovative online shopping service for consumers,” Kroger CEO Doug Field said in a statement.
“Free & Clear will give shoppers access to thousands of products and help consumers avoid the frustration of in-person shopping.
The app will make it easy for shoppers to shop wherever they are and we look forward to working with our partners and the grocery industry to continue to expand this service.”
Kroger, the largest U.S. grocery retailer by sales, has long been an advocate of inroads online.
In 2018, it became the first company in the country to offer free online shopping for grocery orders.
It has also made inroads in other areas.
Last month, the company announced that it had signed up over 4 million customers for the Free & Clean online shopping app.
Earlier this month, Kroger announced a partnership with the New York Times to make it easier for consumers to shop for groceries online.
